Where are we up to??
We have applied for the money to finish the film in the Signature Documentary Fund from Screen Australia and after our two incredibly positive test screenings are quietly confident. It was a huge amount of paper work, document collection and form filling. There are a lot of variables- Will it get in front of the right people? Land on the right desk? Will the competition be too fierce? As Luke would say everyman and there dog will be going for this small bucket of money. But how can they not be charmed by this incredible, important and moving story? We will find out on Nov 9 so please send us your prayers and good wishes.
We also entered it as a rough cut into the Sundance Film Festival which if accepted would open a lot of doors.
Also the Cinervate program which is an American foundation for the promotion of independant film making.
Lastly we put it in the ACE documentary prize which is run by the American Humane Society.
So we have a few chances. Fingers crossed. It would be ironic if this archetypal Australian film ended up being funded by American money.
Lastly at the big screening at AFTRS along with a large number of the Carlon clan, was the media person from the Office of Environment and Heritage. She really liked the film. Said we'd done a wonderful job of capturing a complex and difficult story. She also regretted not coming out on a mission to the Burragorang, which is another good sign.
We'll let you know
